Sandra “Alexandrina” Don-Arthur is a multi-award winning Ghanaian makeup professional who wears several hats as a beauty mogul, beauty content creator, skin expert and makeup artist. Affectionately called Alexandrina by both fans and clients alike, Don-Arthur has built a stellar career in the beauty industry both home and abroad. This and many more feats earned her a spot on New York Fashion week as a makeup artist for Maybelline New York alongside her mentor, Pro Nigerian MUA, Bimpe Onakoya, who described her as a “delight to work with at all times” Little Sandra’s love affair with makeup begun in the early 90’s as she observed her biochemist mother apply mascara, lipstick and foundation to her flawless skin for different occasions. Her entry to the beauty industry and the limelight was preceded by a gap year she took after returning to Ghana to pursue a Computer Science degree at Ashesi University. During the period she worked as a production assistant for a production company that created homegrown African content for South Africa’s DSTV. It was at this point, Alexi Glam was birthed as she came to face to face with several aesthetic errors in the content she was vetting, and quickly decided to take courses to equip her with the skills to correct these aesthetic errors as a means of earning extra income. A dynamic and creative makeup artist, whose signature works can be spotted across editorial shoots with Glitz Magazine, Glam Africa, Dream Magazine as well as the Haute Canoe Magazine, advertising campaigns, bridal beauty and primetime TV shows such as “@ Home with Joselyn Dumas”, “Keeping it Real with Joselyn Dumas Season 1”,” Jim Iyke Unscripted” and ”The Dzigbordi show” which are seen daily across the continent and as far afield as Canada & Europe, Sandra has climbed the rough ladder of success and made her way to the zenith of the beauty industry by sheer dint of hard work and passion.
Inspired by black makeup artists including Path MacGrath who is also known as “The Mother”, she has used her knowledge of beauty in educating women about skincare and beauty through beauty articles for Glitz Magazine and online publications such as Bra Perucci Africa. Named the Best Makeup Artist at the Ghana Makeup Awards in 2017, a bevy of African entertainment stars have had the honour of being touched by her brushes. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Juliet Ibrahim, Jackie Appiah, Joselyn Dumas, Tonto Dikeh, Marcy Dolpo Oni, Nadia Buari, Mayowa Nicolas, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Noauh, Victoria Micheals, Sabah Koj, DJ Cuppy all make up the prestigious list. . Her keen eye and innate understanding of colours and technique plus her professionalism has also landed her gigs with other high-profile private clients who have become more than family. With her impressive background and the need to build a world-class brand with strong Ghanaian roots, the beauty mogul has created beauty looks for some of the world’s most prominent fashion events including the New York Fashion Week, Glitz Africa Fashion Week, the Lagos Fashion and Design Week..
The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2017 and the Radford Graduate Show 2017 & 2018 are also part of the events she has worked on.
In 2018, during the visit of HRH Prince Charles to Ghana, Alexandrina was unanimously selected as the key makeup artist for the exclusive fashion show held in honour of HRH Prince Charles & the Duchess of Cornwall at the State Dinner.
Appointed as the artistic director for Maybelline New York, Ghana her portfolio put her in-charge of activities and campaigns to heighten the awareness of the beauty brand in the country
As the first Ghanaian makeup artist to work with world-class fashion brands such as Carolina Herrera, Naeem Khan, Cushnie, Dion Lee, LaQuan Smith and Rochambeau, Alexandrina used the platform to create trend-setting looks at Fashion week with the help of Maybelline NY products.
Funny, Interesting and Creative, Alexandrina tapped into her many qualities to develop riveting and interactive content for both TV and online including “BTS Africa – Beauty Trade Show Africa: A World of Business, Beauty and Innovation”. She is also the creator and executive producer for “Glam it Up... with Alexandrina”; a beauty show which is yet to air on TV that brings beauty and fashion influencers from across Africa to talk about beauty news and trends in a fun and interesting setting. She was also the host of Africa’s first dedicated Makeup TV show “Make-Up Diaries” which showed on DSTV across 46 channels, with video tutorials on Metro TV Ghana.
A humanitarian at heart who believes everyone should have a second chance at life, Don-Arthur and her team partnered with Fair Justice” (an NGO that provides legal services to disadvantaged incarcerated persons) to provide makeup services to 12 female inmates at the Nsawam prisons in Ghana for a project titled”Remember Me”, that was exhibited in an Art Gallery in Accra
Alexandrina doubles as the co-founder and President of The Association of Certified Makeup Artists Ghana (ACMAG), and co-founder of”Sickle Strong Warriors Foundation”.
